As somebody who also uses LMMS, you really pushed it to its limit on this track. Really amazing atmosphere, keep it up!

wodpecker responds:

Thanks dude!

Aside from some mixing, this was a really good ambient track. I think the drums could have been a little softer, and I think the instrument choice was a little unusual for an ambient piece, but I can respect the overall structure of it.

Kind of unrelated to this song, but if you are looking to create a melody for a certain key or chord, then I would suggest looking into using a pentatonic scale. They're great for writing melodies, and even improvisation.

MRM3 responds:

Thank you!
I will definitely look into the pentatonic scales!
when I started, I wasn't thinking "ambient" when I finished I also wasn't thinking "ambient".
But, my mom said (after listening to it) that she would put it under the "ambient" section, so, yeah, that's how it got that genre. lol.
Like I said in my last post: I have a bad set of headphones, after listening to the song off of a different set of headphones, I agree, the beat is too strong, as always. this is a problem in all *and I mean every single one* of my songs.
Despite doing my best to take volume down enough, he drums are still too strong. I will fix this ASAP, and hopefully, within a day or 2, have it uploaded to NG.
Thanks as always, for the nice review!

The intro was Great! You executed it really well.
I can tell that you used some of the default "AudioFileProcessor" sounds. If you wanted to expand some of the sounds you use, you can load more samples. If you had from a larger variety to choose from, I feel like you could have had more samples. In this song, it kinda feels like the samples come and go at random times.

At 1:20 things get a little weird with the instrument that carries the melody. I'm pretty sure that it isn't one tone, but 2 in the same sound. Since you have major/minor chords that will change when the melody sound doesn't, it's going to sound really weird.
There isn't anything huge I can say negative about this song. I would mention mixing, but that relies on if your headphones are good or not. I could work on mixing myself as well.

Also, how much music theory do you know? There isn't anything from this song in particular that stands out, but more of your other stuff.

MRM3 responds:

There are plenty of things that could be better with this song.
You mentioned at 1:20 "...".
Well, I basically took a sound, and cut it down to 1 frequency, then played that frequency in a major chord over like 2 or 3 octaves.
Yes, this is actually the first time I used those "AudioFileProcessor" sounds. ever. haha.
Concerning "Music theory", I had to google that, just to see what it was.
If a tune pops into my head, I go and put it into music form... that's it, I don't calculate notes, or anything like that. I can play the recorder, and guitar, but, that's it. I don't know how "chords" go, or any of that. I just know that I like music, and am pretty good at making sounds that go well together. with more experience, I will be able to make better songs, but for now, I'm still learning.
Thank you for the nice review, and I appreciate the feedback!

This is really interesting. I wish that the lower-end instrumentals and FX weren't mixed so much more lower than the bells, and drum FX you have. It might be your speakers/headphones that you're using to mix it though.
You do a great job with setting a tense atmosphere, so all in all you did a great job.

Gougou responds:

One eternity later:
thanks

This sound like the beginning to a great song!
I'm usually not a huge fan of trap music but this was pretty good

This is great! My only real criticism is that I wish that the Piano was louder. The piano chords are great, but I felt like it was overshadowed by the synths that you have. You could work on mixing, but the overall composition of the song was fantastic.

In the first half, I felt like the snare overshadowed everything else in terms of volume.
For the second half, it felt like the piano overshadowed the bass you have.
Overall, it's not bad. There aren't any huge issues.
My only advice for the future is to take small breaks when making songs, that way you can come back multiple times with a fresh pair of ears.

The second part in the song (2:50 - 4:35) sounds out of place to me, compared with the rest of the song. Other than that, this song is absolutely amazing!

This is a really interesting song! It defiantly creates an ocean ambiance without any sounds or samples of the ocean, and you can really let your mind drift when you listen to it.

There beginning does have quite a rough start, but besides that my only complaint is that it isn't longer. Great Work!

LiveAtBrussels responds:

Thanks for the review! I'm glad the ocean theme showed through for your listening. This track is part of a concept album so without the transition from the previous track, that might be why the beginning sounds a bit rough but I'm glad you liked it overall.
